Update: Letterman “Joke” Hateful Attack on Child: Was Disgrace Intentional

David Letterman smart aleck sex “joke” about Sarah Palin’s 14-year old daughter being “knocked up” marks a new low for the so-often unfunny acerbic late-night host.
Under intensifying pressure Monday night Letterman again apologized for his joke saying it was tasteless.
Admittedly it has gotten him more attention than anything else he has done in months. Maybe that was his intent, and it may be working since he is swooshing past Leno replacement O’Brien. O’Brien himself has fizzled like a Katie Couric clone allowing Letterman’s CBS show to pass NBC in ratings for the first time since 1995. .
Be that as it may I don’t necessarily agree that Letterman’s goofball comment will incite a rash of older men abusing young girls as Governor Palin said.
For his part Letterman continues to be condescendingly contrite. The incident does raise the issue of duplicity. After all Don Imus got sacked for his equally stupid’ “nappy headed hoes” comment while Letterman gets audience share.
I do insist Letterman engaged in hatespeak, and hatefulness endangers civil society. The murders of Dr. Tiller and the Holocaust Museum guard are indelible evidence that hat words matter. Letterman’s “joke” certainly qualifies as hatespeak of the worst sort. The worst because it was directed at a child to assault a parent for petty, partisan, political purposes.
CBS should do more than gleefully gather rating points and announce at lest a general repudiation of David Letterman’s hatespeak.

Hey Richard, just a couple points. I wouldn’t usually comment on such a non-story, but I do find it interesting that this has item has gotten so much press. Why is it that everyone seems to have taken the joke as referring to her 14 year old when it makes far more sense that he’d have a been talking about the daughter who already got knocked up out of wedlock? The one who’s 18, remember? Seems to me that the sick mind is the one that would imagine it to have been about the underage girl. The same kind of sick mind that would excuse the hate speech of the Bill O’Reilly’s of the world inciting real violence. Point number 2 is that it was 2005, not 1995 when Dave last beat out Leno.

You are kidding right? The joke was directed at the other daughter, you know the one that got pregnant out of wedlock, the one that was trotted out by the campaign saying she was going to marry the guy that got her pregnant, the one that after all that went right back to promoting abstinence only education. The one whose hypocritical mother used her as part of the campaign and also promoted abstinence only education but not for her own children. People that went after Teresa Heinz and thought it was funny for Rush Limbaugh to hold up the 12 year old Chelsea Clinton and refer to her as the white house dog don’t have a lot of room for outrage, oh and them same people that run around saying terrorists should attack us before Obama destroys us are basically full of it.

Letterman is a deranged slob- and his tired 1985 schtick’s about as funny as a train wreck. I say give Todd Palin five minutes alone with this creep- maybe then he’d get the hard education in moral clarity that he so obviously lacks.
And if Sarah Palin is SO silly and irrelevant, why the obsession?
Clearly the Left noted her appeal, and are out to eliminate the threat- it’s not like it’s not obvious. She’s been highly successful in life while ignoring the left-wing feminist model… this helps to explain the extra dose of venom in the attacks.
Go get em, Sarah- and don’t mind the press, nobody will be listening to them anymore after the pending Obamamania implosion-

Nanhummerand Dale: Letterman deserves criticism for his “joke” to the same extent Imus did for his stupid comment. If Rush Limbauigh referred to Chelsea as the “white house dog” he should have had his ample ass kicked too. None of that excuses Letterman.

Still doesn’t answer the simple question of why the right wingnuts took the joke out of context and applied it in a sick fashion to a 14 year old girl. Hello??? It’s quite obvious he was referring to the 18 year old daughter who got knocked up out of wedlock. Who is the sick one imagining a 14 year old girl being raped???

Nahummer: In hnis own word Letterman admits his stupidity and the vile nature of hjis “joke.” Calling names does not alter that indelible fact. He is wrong, dead wrong and his “joke” is an offense to any thinklng person and not be excused on the basis of “context.” Indeed it is his context that is most offenive.

David Letterman’s hate is as old as some ancient Hebrew prophets.
Speaking of anti-Semitism, it’s Jerry Falwell and other fundy leaders who’ve gleefully predicted that in the future EVERY nation will be against Israel (an international first?) and that TWO-THIRDS of all Jews will be killed, right?
Wrong! It’s the ancient Hebrew prophet Zechariah who predicted all this in the 13th and 14th chapters of his book! The last prophet, Malachi, explains the reason for this future Holocaust that’ll outdo even Hitler’s by stating that “Judah hath dealt treacherously” and “the Lord will cut off the man that doeth this” and asks “Why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother?”
Haven’t evangelicals generally been the best friends of Israel and persons perceived to be Jewish? Then please explain the recent filthy, hate-filled, back-stabbing tirades by David Letterman (and Sandra Bernhard and Kathy Griffin) against a leading evangelical named Sarah Palin, and explain why most Jewish leaders have seemingly condoned Palin’s continuing “crucifixion”!
While David, Sandra, and Kathy are tragically turning comedy into tragedy, they are also helping to speed up and fulfill the Final Holocaust a la Zechariah and Malachi, thus helping to make the Bible even more believable!
